چکیده
OBJECTIVE This study aims to observe the effects of circumferential pulmonary vein ablation (CPVA) and CPVA combined with complex fractionated atrial electro-gram (CPVA+CFAE) on morphology and function of left atrium in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). METHODS To evaluate the effects of CPVA and CPVA+CFAE on morphology and function of left atrium, the left atrial volume and late diastolic velocity peak (Va) were determined by tissue Doppler imaging before and after CPVA and CPVA+CFAE, respectively. RESULTS There was no statistical difference in the left atrial volume before and after CPVA. However, Va was significantly higher after CPVA (P=0.001). There was no statistical difference in both the left atrial volume and Va before and after CPVA+CFAE. Va after ablation was significantly higher in CPVA group than in CPVA+CFAE group (P=0.031). CONCLUSION The left atrial function was significantly improved after CPVA, but CPVA+CFAE failed to markedly improve the left atrial function. This suggests that excessive atrial substrate ablation may damage the left atrial function.

Incidence of Atrial Fibrillation after Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery and Its Risk Factors in Shiraz, Iran during 2017-18
Background and Objectives: Atrial fibrillation is one of the most common disorientations after coronary artery bypass graft surgery and can affect the chance of survival in the first year after surgery. The present study aimed to determine the incidence of atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass graft surgery and its risk factors. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on...
متن کاملChange in scar visibility in LGE-MRI with time after RF ablation procedure
Background Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia affecting more than 2 million people in North America. Radio-frequency (RF) and cryo ablations of the left atrium (LA) are effective for symptomatic, drug refractory AF patients. Reported success rates of the procedure vary significantly with AF recurrences ranging from 25-50%. Many AF recurrences occur early after the pr...
متن کاملClinical Significance of P Wave Dispersion in Prediction of Atrial Fibrillation in Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction
Background: P wave dispersion (PWD) is defined as the difference between the maximum P wave duration (Pmax) and the minimum P wave duration (Pmin) in 12-leads of the surface electrocardiography. The aim of this study was to evaluate the values of PWD during atrial fibrillation (AF) after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods: We prospectively evaluated atrial rhythms of 350 patients (251 m...

Background: Alcohol consumption has multiple side effects on heart which can be divided to six subgroups: Heavy alcohol drinkers (80 g/day alcohol consumption) are most susceptible to cardiac complications. The aim of this study was to review alcohol side effects on heart and two present two alcoholic patients with alcoholic cardiomyopathy. Case report: Case A: A 52 year-old man presented with ...
متن کاملConfluent Extended Posterior Left Atrial Wall Ablation: Thinking Inside the Box
Here, we report intermediate follow-up details after using a technique of confluent posterior left atrial wall epicardial ablation designed to eliminate both existing and future atrial fibrillation (AF) substrates. The method is part of the Convergent hybrid procedure for AF ablation. In this study, multiple confluent epicardial ablations with radiofrequency energy were delivered, spanning the ...
